Professional owners are the leader of the team and they are the ones who set the example for the team. If they are making comments or doing something or even saying something they’re not supposed to say, that shows a bad example to the team. If it hits the public, it can even affect their life.
A good example is the Phoenix Suns’ owner Robert Sarver. He made a comment in the locker room about Golden State's star power forward/center saying,"You know, why does Draymond Green get to run up the court and say [N-word]?”
Sarver said this multiple times and he is a white guy. Sources were telling him he couldn't say that. After all that, they might have caught an eye on this and the NBA saw this and told Sarver either you sell your team or you will be forced to.
The league should have the opportunity to force an owner to sell their team because their actions could affect their team's name and reputation. Depending on the situation, I feel like professional sports leagues should discuss if they should sell their team or not.
Finally, the league should give out warnings like they gave Robert Sarver because it gives them time to think about what they did and start to figure out what to do and go with anything that’s best for them to not look bad on what their actions were.
